Howard Lake's Good Neighbor Days set for this weekend

The 30th Annual Good Neighbor Days celebration in Howard Lake is scheduled for this Thursday through Sunday, June 21-24.

Both new and traditional activities are planned for the four-day event.

Thursday, June 21

• 2 p.m. – Queen’s Tea at Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center.

• 6:30 p.m. – Sail into Good Neighbor Days Banquet, Howard Lake Christian Church. Meal served at 7 p.m. $6 with button, $6.50 without. Dinner provided by Sunni’s Grill in Howard Lake. This event is sponsored by the Howard Lake Business Association.

Friday, June 22

• 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. – Petting zoo at the Country Store. Refreshments will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Country Store.

• 4 - 8 p.m. Root beer floats for $1.50, west side of city hall, sponsored by Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center. Matching funds have been applied for through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Wright County Chapter 130106.

• 6 p.m. – Pee Wee Reese Baseball Tournament, Yager Field.

• 6 p.m. – Burger and fries stand by the fire station.

• 6:30 p.m. – Orphans Baseball Tournament at Memorial Park.

Fireworks following the Orphans game at Memorial Park, courtesy of Security State Bank and City of Howard Lake. If fireworks are rained out, they will be moved to Saturday night after the championship game.

• 7 p.m. – Kiddie Parade – line up at 6:30 on Eighth Street, west side of HLWW High School.

Saturday, June 23

• 6 a.m. – Pancake Breakfast at Lions Park before fishing contest. Also, hot dogs and beverages during the fish weigh-in (noon - time is approximate).

• 8 a.m. - noon – 25th annual fishing contest at Lions Park (register at 7 a.m. at the park).

• 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. – Craft, Flea, and Country Market Day. East side employee parking lot of new bank and west of old clinic building.

• 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Book sale, Sloppy Joes, and strawberry shortcake at the community room above the Howard Lake Library. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

• 10 a.m. – PeeWee Reese Baseball Tournament, Yager Field.

• 10 a.m. – 17th annual one block run starts south of city hall.

• 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. – HLWW National Honor Society car wash at Munson Lake Nutrition. Donations will be accepted.

• 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. – Petting zoo at the Country Store. Refreshments will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Country Store.

• 10:30 a.m. Sixth annual Paper Airplane Toss at the fire station.

• 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. – Root beer floats for $1.50, west side of city hall, sponsored by Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center. Matching funds have been applied for through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Wright County Chapter 130106.

• 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. – Carnival games at the fire station, sponsored by GND Royalty Committee.

• Noon – Burger and fries by the fire station.

• Noon – Minnesota mini-rods and garden tractor pull, sponsored by the Howard Lake Fire Department and Howard Lake Lions.

• Noon (approximate) – Hot dogs and beer at fishing contest weigh-in Lion’s Park, courtesy of the Howard Lake Lions.

• 1 p.m. – “Called to be Bald” to culminate a food shelf drive for Wright County community Action Food Shelf. Betty Workman will have her head shaved if the youth collect 1,000 pounds of food. This event is sponsored by the Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake. Event runs from May 23 to June 23.

• 1 - 4 p.m. Dunk tank sponsored by St. John’s Youth Group of Howard Lake.

• 1 - 4 p.m. – Bingo sponsored by HLWW After Prom under the tent.

• 2 p.m. – Turtle races at the fire station.

• 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. – Fire truck rides for kids at the fire station.

• 4:30 - 8 p.m. – Pork chop dinner by the Howard Lake Fire Department at the fire station.

• 5 - 7 p.m. – French Lake Wrestling Association by the fire station.

• 6 p.m. – Orphans Baseball Tournament – third-place game at Memorial Field.

• 7:15 p.m. – Orphans Baseball Tournament, Championship Game.

• If rained out on Friday, fireworks will be held after the Orphans Tournament at Memorial Park, courtesy of Security State Bank and City of Howard Lake

Sunday, June 24

• 8 a.m. – Third annual 5K Run/Walk, northeast side of Howard Lake to Memorial Park. Proceeds go toward the Howard Lake Watershed Alliance.

• 10 a.m. – PeeWee Reese Baseball Tournament, Yager Field.

• 10:30 a.m. – Community Church Service at HLWW High School Gymnasium.

• Noon – Burger and fries stand at the fire station.

• Noon - 4 p.m. – Car show at school parking lot (north side).

• 1 - 4 p.m. – Dunk tank sponsored by St. John’s Youth Group of Howard Lake.

• 2 p.m. – Grande day parade. Line up 1 p.m. at Wright County Fairgrounds.

• 3 p.m. – Old-time band under the tent – “Chuck Thiel and the Jolly Ramblers.”

• 6 p.m. – Royalty coronation at HLWW Humphrey Hall.

• 6 p.m. – Raffle drawing sponsored by Howard Lake Good Neighbor Day Committee during the coronation – cash drawing.

• Evening – Howard Lake Fire Department raffle drawings at the fire station, including Arctic Cat 650 4 x 4, four wheeler.
