Filings to open for area townships

By Lynda Jensen
Editor

Most area townships will feature supervisor and treasurer positions open for spring elections – with the exception of Winsted and Bergen townships, both of which switched to even-year, fall elections – and Marysville, which features only a single supervisor spot open because the treasurer is appointed there.

The supervisor positions are three-year terms and the treasurer positions are two-year terms in each township.

Filing begins Tuesday, Jan. 2 and will close 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Township elections will be conducted Tuesday, March 13.

Bergen Township

Bergen switched to even year, fall elections and will not conduct another election until 2008, reported Clerk Anita Bahr.

Camden Township

Two positions are open in Camden, the supervisor position currently served by Bruce Clark, and the treasurer position served by Denise Zellmann. Zellmann is finishing out an appointed term since the previous treasurer moved out of town, reported Clerk Roger Sauerbrey.

Voting March 13 will take place at the township hall, but this will be the last time that elections will be conducted at the hall, he said.

A new location is being worked on and will be announced at a later date.

Hollywood Township

Two positions are open in Hollywood, the supervisor position currently served by Curtis Thaemert, and the treasurer position served by Chuck Schuft.

Also on the spring ballot will be a question about moving the spring election to the fall, to match even year elections, Clerk Becky Burns reported. This would save money in costs associated with the electronic ballot machines being used.

Marysville Township

One position is open in Marysville, the supervisor position currently served by Dick Sawatzke.

The clerk position is an appointed clerk/treasurer position served by Dorothy Rahn, and therefore not up for election.

Middleville Township

Two positions are up for Middleville, the supervisor position served by Bob Berg, and the treasurer position served by Everett Smith.

Victor Township

Two positions are open in Victor, the supervisor position currently served by Burton Horsch and the treasurer position served by Sean Groos.

Winsted Township

Winsted Township does not feature any elections because it switched to an even-year, fall election, reported Clerk Sue Goebel.

Woodland Township

Two positions are open in Woodland, the supervisor position currently served by Kenny Pawelk, and the treasurer position served by Gene Janikula.

Watertown Township

Two positions are up in Watertown Township, the supervisor position served by Mike Dressen, and the treasurer position served by David Heldt.
