New owner of LP salon is excited to be working close to home
By Ivan Raconteur
Despite the fact that she will be working a lot of hours, Lester Prairie resident Tamara Vergin sees owning The Hair Company as a chance to spend more time with her kids.
Vergin will officially take ownership of the salon Saturday, May 12.
Vergin was managing the Great Clips in Waconia when Hair Company owner Peggy Rathkamp called her about a business opportunity.
“She said she wanted to get out of hair cutting, and asked if I wanted to take over the business,” Vergin said.
Vergin worked with Rathkamp several years ago.
“It sounded like a great opportunity for me to spend more time with my family,” Vergin said.
She has lived in Lester Prairie for seven years with her three children, Alexandra, 16, Zachary, 13, and Max, 7, and her husband Craig, who is a mold maker at Suburban Mold in Glencoe.
Vergin said Max, who is in first grade at Lester Prairie Elementary, is very excited about the prospect of her working closer to home.
No major changes are planned for the business at this time.
Vergin has been cutting hair for 19 years, and said she plans to honor the business that Rathkamp established.
She said she will also honor any punch cards for tanning that were sold by Rathkamp.
Vergin said the hours will change slightly, and she expects to offer more morning hours.
Both appointments and walk-ins are welcome.
“I am very excited about this opportunity,” Vergin commented.
She is planning a grand re-opening event for Friday, June 15, to coincide with Prairie Days.
