Meeker County 'Fairest Days of Summer' begin Aug. 2

Meeker County’s 135th annual “Fairest Days of Summer” county fair is Thursday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 5.

A new event this year is an “Old Fashioned Band Concert” in the bandshell at 7 p.m., and again at 8 p.m. The Mid-Minnesota Concert Band will perform.

Kicking off the fair Thursday will be livestock entries, opening at 6 a.m. The first scheduled show is the 4H rabbit show at 11 a.m. The Arts-In performances will be in the bandshell at 3:30 p.m.

The carnival opens at 4 p.m. The Demo Derby will be at the grandstand at 7 p.m., and Wally Pikal will entertain at the beer garden at 8:30 p.m.

Friday at the fair is senior citizen day. Those who are 65 and older get in free until 5 p.m.

The day begins with an open class goat show at 8:30 a.m. The carnival opens at 1 p.m.

The senior citizens program in the bandshell begins at 1 p.m. It will include an award program sponsored by the Council on Aging. The volunteer of the year and fair person of the year will be honored.

All-American Amusement bracelet rides will be between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

“Draft Horse Fever,” Hitch classes show is 7 p.m. at the grandstand.

Saturday begins at 9 a.m. with an open class rabbit show, followed by FFA rabbits following. The carnival opens at noon.

The demo derby will be at the grandstand at 7 p.m.

Sunday is kids’ day from noon until 5 p.m. An open class horse show will be at 10 a.m.

An ecumenical church service by St. Matthews UCC of Forest City will be in the bandshell at 10:30 a.m.

The carnival begins at noon. Bracelet rides are between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Auto Cross, a new event at the Meeker County Fair, is at the grandstand at 5 p.m.

The Sherwin Linton Show, including the winners of the talent show, will perform in the bandshell from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The release of general exhibits and livestock will be at 8 p.m.

The 4H clubs have three special events during the fair. They are Thursday and Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday at 6:15 p.m.

The winners from Share the Fun will present their skit on Friday at 6 p.m.
