Meyers are new owners of Bailey's Tavern and Grill
By Linda Scherer
Bailey’s Tavern and Grill, located in Winsted on the corner of Main Avenue West and McLeod County Road 1, has been renamed Ernie’s Bar and Grill and is scheduled to open Monday, Feb. 19.
The new owners, Sherri and Ernie Meyer of Waverly, have never owned a bar before. However, they have owned other businesses and have 25 years of experience in the real estate industry.
They currently own a real estate business called Countryview Realty and West Metro Appraisal Services in Waverly.
They are looking forward to the fact that the bar and grill is a new business to them and “something a little bit different.”
Ernie had been thinking about purchasing a bar, or a bar and restaurant, when some friends told him that Bailey’s might possibly be for sale.
The Meyers liked the location and Ernie, who loves to cook, thought it would be a great chance to use his culinary skills.
The plan is to serve lunch and dinner daily. Some of Ernie’s menu ideas are bar and grill items as well as daily specials to include soups, salads, ribs, steaks, and Mexican and Italian dishes.
Between the two of them, they have not decided who will be working at the bar more, although Sherri thinks it will probably be Ernie.
No matter who ends up spending more time at the bar, the Meyers are presently working together on cosmetic decisions that need to be made before the bar opens.
Minor changes are being made, like new bar stools, paint, and general clean-up. Other major changes will include a new roof, replacing a wood fireplace with a real gas fireplace, and getting a 60-inch big screen television.
This summer, they will do some work on the outside of the building, painting, and adding a patio on the south side.
New bar-top gaming machines, two dart machines, and three pool tables will be available. Dart and pool leagues are in the planning stages, along with starting a Texas Hold’em card league.
Every week will offer Karaoke, an open juke box night, or a live band based on availability. Karaoke by Bad Dog is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 23.
Meyers would also like to sponsor a bike run this summer and possibly a softball team.
They are pleased with the good response they have received from people regarding their latest venture. They like getting suggestions and will have suggestion boxes inside the bar for customer opinions and ideas. “If it is feasible, we will do it,” Ernie said.
Ernie’s Bar and Grill will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to midnight.
A grand opening is being planned in the spring that will include a pig roast and a live band.
