A Delano High School graduate was injured when she was struck by a vehicle in Mankato Nov. 18, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Corinne L. Overstake, 21, a 2004 graduate of Delano High School and Loretto native, was with her friend Rissa J. Amen-Rief, 22, of Eden Prairie in Mankato when they were both struck while in the roadway on Third Avenue.

At 12:47 a.m., the Mankato Department of Public Safety department responded to a report of two pedestrians being struck by a car on Third Avenue near Kingswood Drive.

Amen-Rief died as a result of injuries sustained, and Overstake suffered cervical injuries, as well as injuries to her lower back and pelvic area.

A 17-year-old from Mankato who was the driver of the vehicle that struck the girls, a 1991 Toyota Tercel, was uninjured in the incident, and has been cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

Minnesota State Mankato President Richard Davenport expressed condolences on behalf of the entire campus community.

“Our deepest, heartfelt sympathies go out to loved ones, fellow students, friends and acquaintances,” Davenport said. “And we extend our wishes for a speedy, complete recovery to the injured student. The campus community is tremendously saddened by this tragic event.”

Further details about the crash and Overstake’s condition have not been released.
