A successful fundraising drive allowed Lester Prairie Elementary School to purchase new equipment for the playground, and now, the time has come to install it.

Lester Prairie Elementary Principal Pam Lukens said the school is looking for volunteers this Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30, to help put the equipment together.

Ram Building and Litzau Excavating have volunteered equipment and labor to help with the project, Lukens said.

Volunteers are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Lunch will be provided.

The new equipment, which was purchased from Landscape Structures of Delano, will be installed near existing equipment in the school playground.

Lukens said the school plans to implement a Head Start program this fall, and some additional playground equipment will be installed near the kindergarten room for younger children.

Lukens said the school’s goal was to raise $45,000 for the project.

Between February and April, a total of $47,000 was raised through a variety of activities.

Students sold magnets and cookie dough. Dances, a carnival, and a Lions breakfast all helped the school reach its goal, as did matching funds donated by businesses.
