Six candidates to vie for royalty positions
Six young women are candidates for the Delano Royalty positions of princesses or queen. They are all seniors at Delano High School.
The candidates will be participating in several activities and community events during the months prior to Delano’s annual July 4th Celebration.
Residents will have an opportunity to meet the candidates at their first event, the Delano/Franklin Historical Society’s Jazz Fest Saturday, May 19 in downtown Delano.
Another activity will be Thursday, May 31 at the Peppermint Twist. The past Delano Royalty and the new candidates will be hosting a Princess Party.
Sarah Fleming has been involved in several drama productions and has sung in choir ensemble contests.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and an editor for the Delano High School journalism department.
Fleming will be attending Northwestern College with plans to major in psychology. She is the daughter of Steve and Patricia Fleming.
Her sponsors are the Delano Lions Club and American Family Insurance.
Brittany Boorse is a member of the Delano marching and pep bands and has lettered six times in music.
Boorse also enjoyed playing softball for two years, and is currently taking PSEO classes at Rasmussen College. In the fall, she will attend Ridgewater Community College, and plans to become a registered nurse. Her parents are Tim and Kathy Boorse.
She is sponsored by the Crow River Bank and Delano Herald Journal.
Kayla Gravdal is active in sports. She plays basketball, softball, and rugby.
She has also participated in the spring play and fall musical. She has served on the Youth Advisory Council and is a member of the SHARP team.
Gravdal will be attending boot camp and plans to serve in the US Navy. She is the daughter of Tammy Gravdal.
Her sponsors are the Delano Athletic Club and Edina Reality.
Emily Hutter is a two-year captain of the Delano Tiger Dance Team and helps choreograph the team’s dances.
Hutter is a member of the National Honor Society and co-president of the student council. She has played several roles in school musicals.
She is the editor of the 2007-2008 yearbook, and the varsity softball manager, and will be attending college to major in education, with plans to be an English teacher. Her parents are Robert and Diane Hutter.
She is sponsored by the State Bank of Delano and the Delano Jaycees.
Sarah Stoddard is active in softball and track. She can be found working at Subway and Apple Jack’s Orchard.
Stoddard plans to attend college to become a licensed daycare provider. Her parents are Mike and Mary Stoddard.
She is sponsored by the Catholic Aid Association and the Delano Sportsmen’s Club.
Kelly Amundson has been a cheerleader. She was a Girls State representative, and also given the opportunity to serve as a Girls State counselor.
Amundson plans to attend college to become a cardiologist. She is the daughter of Joyce Harty.
She is sponsored by the Delano American Legion Family and the Delano Area Chamber of Commerce.
