Wright County continues to attract hoards of home dwellers as it is listed number 73 on the recent release of the US Census Bureau’s 100 fastest growing counties in the nation.

Estimates were pulled from US counties with populations of 10,000 or more from April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2006.

Wright County increased in population by 24,794 between 2000 and 2006, resulting in a 28 percent increase and a total population of 114,187.

This increase makes Wright County the third fastest growing county in the state behind Scott and Sherburne Counties.

Scott County is listed as the fastest growing county in Minnesota with a 39 percent increase and Sherburne is the second with a 33 percent increase in the six-year time period.

Extensive growth along the I-94 corridor is said to be one significant factor for the growth increase.

The fastest growing county in the nation is Flagler County, Fla. with a 67 percent population increase.
