Four area businesses are facing civil penalties after failing the alcohol compliance checks that were recently conducted by Wright County.

The El Cazador Mexican Restaurant and Juke Box Restaurant in Delano, Great Northern Bar and Grill in Montrose, and Niesen’s Liquor in Cokato all failed the most recent round of compliance checks.

Niesen’s is facing a $500 penalty for its second violation in two years and possibly a one-day suspension of their license. A hearing will be held during the city council meeting Monday, June 9.

Great Northern Bar and Grill is facing a $200 fine for its first infraction.

The El Cazador Mexican Restaurant may be fined $250 and Juke Box Restaurant $500 for failing the check.

This is El Cazador’s first infraction since coming under new management in the last year. It is the second infraction in two years for the Juke Box.

Both businesses are part of a Delano program called RU21 best practices program.

Businesses that are part of the RU21 program receive smaller civil penalties than those that aren’t when a compliance check is failed. For example, the fine for a first-time violation is $750 for non-participating businesses and $250 for participating businesses.
