Fall ballot will feature mayor positions open this fall election

There will be plenty of local seats to fill come fall, when voters go to the polls November.

Mayorships are up this year, with at least two council members up in each city.

All the council seats are four-year terms, unless otherwise noted. Mayor positions are two-year terms.

The following seats will be open:

• Cokato – the mayor position served by Bruce Johnson is up, along with the council seats served by Carl Harju and Butch Amundsen. Harju was appointed and is currently filling out the position served by Jan Severson previously.

• Dassel – the mayor position served by Ava Flachmeyer is up, along with two positions, one that was just filled by Wayne Medcraft for the vacancy created when Al Dunn moved out of the city limits, and a second council seat served by Bob Lalone.

• Darwin – the mayor position is up served by Orlan Cervin, as well as council positions served by Diane Porth and Patti Berdick.

Three up on school board

The Dassel Cokato School District will have three seats open; those served by Cary Linder, Brian Danielson, and Denise Ertl. All are four-year terms, even though Ertl was appointed.

The filing period for school board begins Tuesday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 15.

County board positions

County board positions will also offer open seats.

Meeker County has only one seat up this year, that served by Ron Kutzke who covers the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City region.

This is because when redistricting occurred after the last census in 2000, the county attorney interpreted the change in positions, which were to be staggered, as being four seats in one election cycle (as was the case in 2006), and one in the next cycle, as it will be this year.

Wright County will have two positions up, those being served by Jack Russek and Karla Heeter. Russek is seeking re-election, and Heeter is not.
