The Franklin Township Board learned recently the township’s Brighton Avenue will not be used as a detour route during next year’s Highway 12 construction.
At the board’s meeting Nov. 10, the board noted a written response from the Minnesota Department of Transportation that no township road will be used as an official detour during the project.
The planned detour route will use County State Aid Highway 30 from Highway 12 in Delano west to Highway 25, then north on Highway 25 into Montrose, and back to Highway 12.
Board doesn’t award diesel fuel contract
The township board discussed the option of pre-buying, as well as other options that may be available to the board instead of accepting a quote at this time for road diesel fuel.
Mid County Co-op responded to the township board it will not be sending a quote this year. Last year’s supplier, Centra Sota, submitted a quote for 10 cents above the rack price.
Township Board Supervisor Bill McMullen will research more options and present them at the December meeting. The board did not accept the bid from Centra Sota at this time.
Odds and ends
In other business, the board:
• entered into an agreement with the Wright County Assessor’s Office, noting there was no increase from the previous 2008-09 agreement. The board approved the agreement for 2010-11.
• discussed a response to Wright County Planning and Zoning regarding an amendment to its zoning ordinance regarding sign regulations.
McMullen said he is not in favor of this amendment as it could allow more billboards, and feels the township does not need more billboards. Discussion also took place about set back requirements.
The board did not approve the request from Wright County for the amendment. Board member Mike Barfknecht was absent from the meeting.
• discussed during the public comment portion of the meeting Green Acres and the anticipated financial obligation for landowners.
