CARVER, MN - Those who enjoy visiting Baylor, Lake Waconia and Lake Minnewashta regional parks often enjoy volunteering at it as well, said Lenny Klevan Schmitz, parks coordinator.
The parks offer a wide range of activities all year round, and require the assistance of local volunteers in order to continue offering park visitors so many options.
Some of the popular activities at the parks are disc golf, Santa in the Park, storytelling, camping, hiking, candlelight skiing, and maple syrup tours, to name a few.
People of all ages, including children, are invited to volunteer, and some volunteer opportunities are suited for families.
“Within our park system we have made several improvements over the last couple of years,” Klevan Schmitz said. “The park additions I am most proud of include the development of the off-leash dog area at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park. Also the installation of the disc golf course at Baylor Regional Park and the development of the sledding hill at Lake Waconia Regional Park,” he added, explaining that parks would not be what they are without the commitment of the staff and help from volunteers.
Volunteer positions include: park greeters, land stewards, assisting staff during special events, speakers, instructors, and presenters. For more information about the parks and volunteer opportunities, visit www.co.carver.mn.us/departments/pw/parks/index.asp or call (952) 466-5250.
