The Delano Area Educational Foundation (DAEF) will be hosting its fourth annual gala Saturday, Jan. 26.

This year’s theme is “Mardi Gras Mystique,” and the event will take place at the Rockford Township Hall.

The Delano Area Educational Foundation is not affiliated with the similarly named Delano Area Foundation.

DAEF’s mission is to acquire and utilize resources to enrich learning experiences and aid District 879 in achieving academic excellence.

As a 501c(3) organization, one of its long-term goals is to establish a permanent endowment for District 879.

The endowed funds are kept to provide interest and dividend income to the Delano School District. To date, the foundation has allocated $25,000 for the endowment fund.

Grants for the 2006-2007 year provided six LCD projectors to the high school, three microphones and sound systems for the middle school, new stage curtains for the middle and high school auditorium, LCD projectors, Tablet PCs and Smart boards for the middle school, and an interactive white board and sound enhancement system for the elementary school.

Based on the amount received from fundraising and donations, the DAEF board meets to determine how much money is available for grants to the district, for permanent endowment, and for operating funds.

In the spring, each school is notified that grant requests are being accepted.

The requests are evaluated based on several criteria, including who and how many will be affected, the budget, and whether the projects and items will enrich and aid the academic environment of the district.

DAEF meets once per month during the school year and welcomes new members.

“We are looking for more people to get involved,” said DAEF President Chad Skartvedt.

For more information, contact him at (763) 972-2980.

Tickets are still available for the DAEF Gala, Mardi Gras Mystique, by calling Rachel McDonald at (612) 741-7229, or by visiting McDonald’s Studio in downtown Delano.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a silent auction, dinner, live auction and a dance.

Many unique items will be up for auction including, a family portrait drawn by a local artist, a seven-night resort stay, and a one-week vacation in April to Las Olas Beach Club in Satellite Beach, Fla.

The DAEF gala is sure to be a fun-filled event with good food, music, dancing and friends. All proceeds support Delano Public Schools.
