Brittany Boorse of Delano is one of six girls who are competing for the title of Fairest of the Fair at the coronation set for 4 p.m. Sunday, July 27, during the Wright County Fair.
The Wright County Fair is one of the few fairs in the entire region that actually its own crown royalty.
A little information about each candidate follows.
Brittany Boorse
Age: 18
Hometown: Delano
Parents/siblings: Tim and Kathy/ brother, Brandon
Hobbies and interests: I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family at the beach, as well as bonfires.
What do you think are your best qualities?
I believe my best qualities include my determination, positive personality, as well as being energetic.
What is your fondest memory of the Wright County Fair?
My most fond memory of the Wright County Fair includes attending the coronation last year.
Why do you think you should be given the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Wright County Fair?
I believe the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Wright County Fair would be a great opportunity, as well as a great experience. By having experience, I feel that I would be a great asset to the program.
Why did you decide to run for the Fairest of the Fair?
During this past year, my deciding factor for running for Fairest of the Fair would have to be attending the Wright County Fair and being a great friend of the current royalty. I am ready to continue my experience in hoping to be an ambassador for the fair.
What is your favorite ride?
My favorite fair ride at the fair is the Zipper. At first it is scary, but after a few times, the ride is enjoyable.
Shelagh Holmes
Age: 18
Hometown: Buffalo
Parents/siblings: Larry and Pat/13-year-old sister, Rachel
Hobbies and interests: Being around friends and family, working with kids, dancing, and going to the beach.
What do you think are your best qualities?
Very friendly and outgoing, love meeting new people, very loyal, trustworthy, and responsible.
What is your fondest memory of the Wright County Fair?
Coming with my cousin to the demo derbys to watch our friends and cheer them on.
Why do you think you should be given the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Wright County Fair?
I have grown up in this community. I love coming to the fair to meet up with people and have fun, and I want the chance to represent the place I enjoy and make other people interested, as well.
Why did you decide to run for the Fairest of the Fair?
I love the fair and want the opportunity to represent it. I want to teach other people about the fair and get them interested, as well.
What is your favorite ride?
My favorite fair ride is the Graviton, because it’s fun to be upside down on it and not fall, but my new one is the Remix 2 and I’m hoping they will have it this year.
Johannan Comee
Age: 17
Hometown: Buffalo
Parents/siblings: Steve and Sheryl/siblings Angie, Amber, Jake, Ashley, Jamie, Jerika, and Tad
Hobbies and interests: I love scrapbooking, playing my drum set, watching Twins baseball, playing any kind of sport, hiking up at the Northshore, sitting around a bonfire, spending time with my family, being around kids, cheerleading, dancing, listening to music, and being active in clubs at school.
What do you think are your best qualities?
I think my best qualities are being able to step up and be a leader, and being able to get tasks done.
What is your fondest memory of the Wright County Fair?
I have so many memories from the fair, but if I had to pick one, I would have to say the time I was running around looking for the mints that I entered in the baked goods contest, and then someone led me to the grand prize table, where my Daisy Mints sat with a ribbon.
Why do you think you should be given the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Wright County Fair?
I think it would be a privilege, as well as an honor to represent the fair, and it would allow me to give back for all the memories, new hobbies, and opportunities the fair has allowed me to create over my many years of going.
Why did you decide to run for the Fairest of the Fair?
I decided to run for the Fairest of the Fair because the fair has always been a big part of my life, and I look forward to going to it every summer. I think this is my next step in getting more involved in the fair.
What is your favorite ride?
My favorite fair ride is the camel ride. Every fair has the same rides, and amusement parks have similar ones, too but how often do you get to ride a camel?
Afton Kielsa
Age: 19
Hometown: Albertville
Parents/siblings: Richard and Catherine/younger brother, Cody
Hobbies and interests: I love to draw, swim, cheerlead, work in my community, be with my family, play with my dogs, and compete in figure skating.
What do you think are your best qualities?
My best qualities are: I am a leader, I volunteer a lot of my time to the community, I am goal-oriented, I have a great personality, I am sincere, and I am very ambitious.
What is your fondest memory of the Wright County Fair?
My fondest memory of the Wright County Fair is just having one day in which my family and I are together, have no cares in the world, and enjoy our quality time as a family.
Why do you think you should be given the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Wright County Fair?
I feel I have the qualities and the passion to be an ambassador of Wright County. I have enjoyed giving back to my community, and meeting so many wonderful people. I also feel that I can promote a sense of belonging and friendliness of Wright County, because that what we are all about.
Why did you decide to run for the Fairest of the Fair?
I wanted to run for Fairest of the Fair because I wanted to get more involved in my community in Wright County. I am very active in my Albertville community and I feel by doing this I can give back, educate myself more about Wright County, and broaden my experiences.
What is your favorite ride?
The Merry-go-round is my favorite, because I can choose my own horse.
Danielle Mazer
Age: 18
Hometown: Monticello
Parents/siblings: Chris and Sheila/sisters. Ashley and Miranda; and brother, Dakota
Hobbies and interests: Painting, photography, being outdoors. I enjoy basketball, softball, and other sports. I also enjoy going up north.
What do you think are your best qualities?
I believe my best qualities are my outgoing personality, and my willingness to help others.
What is your fondest memory of the Wright County Fair?
My fondest memory of the Wright County Fair is my uncle winning the best decorated car for the demo Friday, and then again Sunday, with the same car.
Why do you think you should be given the opportunity to be an ambassador for the Wright County Fair?
I think I should be given the opportunity to be an ambassador, because I would represent the county in a positive fashion.
Why did you decide to run for the Fairest of the Fair?
I decided to run for the Fairest of the Fair because I want to help show what the fair is about, and to present myself as the good role model I am.
What is your favorite ride?
My favorite fair ride is the Scrambler.
