Sometimes when couples experience a change in their lives or move to a new area, it can be difficult for them to meet other couples.
With this in mind, Lisa and Mitch Olson, 2000 graduates of Delano High School, recently launched the web site www.couplesincommon.com.
The site offers a place for couples to find other couples with similar lifestyles and interests without having to leave the comfort of their homes.
“We got married and had kids before most of our friends,” said Lisa Olson. “We started the site with empathy for couples like us who are trying to find other couples who share common interests and are in similar stages of their lives.”
The process is simple. Couples visit the web site and go through a quick registration process, which requires no financial information to be disclosed. Once registered, the couple can write its biography and add pictures.
The next step is searching for a match. The search engine will search by marital status, parental status, age, interests, location, biographies, and pictures.
Couples are not required to submit pictures or phone numbers, unless they want to, and can send or received messages through the web site itself.
The site was launched Oct. 1, and is a program Mitch Olson built himself.
“I started working on it in the beginning of 2007,” he said. “The program sorts the matches itself. We’ve been advertising through Google, Yahoo and Facebook.”
The Olsons feel strongly about this site, and have high hopes of their new business taking off. Currently they are offering a two-month free membership, and plan to keep membership fees low in the future.
Whether a couple’s interests are fishing, camping, sports, or anything else, the Olsons are excited to offer them a place to meet other couples with the same interests.
After graduating from Delano High School, Lisa attended the University of Minnesota and Carlson School of Management. Mitch attended the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in information systems and economics.
The couple has a six-year-old daughter, Anna, and 11-month-old twins, Ian and Audrie. Before the birth of her youngest children, Lisa worked as a human resources manager.
Aside from their new online business, Mitch owns and operates Sharp Software Solution, a software development company specializing in the Microsoft practice area and building everything from web sites to stored procedures.
Lisa’s parents, Ron and Lorraine Hartneck, are long time Delano residents. Mitch’s mother Julie Olson currently lives in Buffalo, and his father Scott Olson, resides in Waverly.
Mitch and Lisa have lived in Waverly for the past four years and are excited about their new business.
“I think we’ve both always had this in our hearts,” said Lisa. “We always thought it’d be so nice to relate to other couples in the same situation, and now we can help others at the same time.”
