The Delano Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 2008 Fall Harvest Festival Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27 in Delano.
There are several events scheduled each day.
The homecoming parade, featuring Delano High School organizations and athletes, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
The parade route will be from the Delano City Hall to the Delano Elementary School on Tiger Drive.
Parade goers are encouraged to vote for their favorite float, as the winner gets a cash prize.
Later, that evening, the Delano Tigers will play Mound Westonka in the Delano homecoming football game.
The fun continues Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. with a medallion hunt. Watch the Delano Herald Journal for clues. A prize valued at $500 will be awarded to the winner.
Next on the agenda is a chili cook-off, with judging at noon at the Delano Park Gazebo.
Once judged, the chili will be sold for $2 a bowl. Proceeds will go to the “Best Float” selected in the homecoming parade.
To register for the chili cook-off, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
From noon to 4 p.m., there will be plenty of family activities in Delano City Park, including pumpkin decorating activities, a hay maze, Tiger Bounce, face painting and crazy hair, and much more.
Dr. John Sweet will be defending the champion title he earned during the 2007 pie eating contest, as he competes this year against several local celebrities.
Coborn’s has provided the pies for a contest between (so far) Steve Gilmer, from the State Bank of Delano; Darren Schuler, principal at Delano Elementary School; Dr. John Sweet; and Joe McDonald, mayor of Delano.
The Delano Area Chamber of Commerce encourages everyone to attend the various activites offered during this celebration of Delano pride.
