CARVER AND MCLEOD COUNTIES, MN – Traffic is finally flowing again on the section of Highway 7 between Silver Lake to St. Bonifacius, which has been closed since April.

The road opened to traffic Friday.

Crews will continue with final work on the project, but this will be done while the road is open.

MnDOT urges motorists to watch for workers and equipment, and use extra caution when driving through the project area.

The 22-mile reconstruction project consisted of removing two inches of the existing surface, constructing two roundabouts at Highway 25 and Carver County Road 10.

Three passing lanes were added during the project, one in McLeod County and two in Carver County.

Turn lanes were added at McLeod County Road 9, McLeod County Road 2 and McLeod County Road 15.

Resurfacing with four inches of bituminous pavement took place along the entire roadway.

The first roundabout on Highway 7 and Carver County Road 10 opened to traffic in July. The second roundabout, located at Highway 25, opened to traffic in September.

Knife River Corporation-North Central of Sauk Rapids was awarded the project with a bid of $13,381,250.
