Good Neighbor Days begin this Thursday

The 31st annual Good Neighbor Days celebration begins this Thursday and runs through Sunday.

The festival is sure to offer something for everyone and will be host to a few new events such as an authentic Indian pow-wow, and a flower basket judging contest.

An outline of the four-day celebration is listed below.

Thursday, June 19

• 2 p.m. – Queen’s Tea (Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center)

• 6:30 p.m. – Sail into Good Neighbor Days Kickoff Banquet (Howard Lake Christian Church)

• Meal served at 7 p.m. Cost: $7 with button, $8 without button. Dinner provided by Sunni’s Grille in Howard Lake. Sponsored by the Howard Lake Business Association

Friday, June 20

• 10 a.m.-3 p.m. – Petting Zoo at the Country Store (Highway 12). Refreshments. Sponsored by the Country Store

• 4-8 p.m. – Root Beer Floats for $1.50 sponsored by Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center. Matching funds applied for through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Wright County Chapter

• 6 p.m. – Pee Wee Reese Baseball Tournament (Yager Field)

• 6 p.m. – Burger and Fries Stand (near fire station)

• 6 p.m.-12 a.m. – Beer Garden (near fire station)

• 6-8 p.m. – KRWC Road Show: music, games, and prizes

• 6 p.m. – Orphans Baseball Tournament (Memorial Park)

• 7 p.m. – Kiddie Parade (Line up at 6:30 p.m. on 8th Street, west side of HLWW High School)

• 8 p.m.-12 a.m. – Band under the tent - “Killer Hayseeds”

• 10 p.m. – Fireworks at Memorial Park - Courtesy of Security State Bank and City of Howard Lake

(If rained out the fireworks will move to Saturday night at 10 p.m.)

Saturday, June 21

• 6 a.m. – Pancake Breakfast (Lions Park before Fishing Contest)

• 8 a.m.-12 p.m. – 26th Annual Fishing Contest at Lions Park (register at 7 a.m. at the park)

• 9 a.m.-3 p.m. – Craft, Flea and Country Market Day (East side employee parking lot of new bank and west of old clinic building)

• 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – Book Sale and Sloppy Joes & Strawberry Shortcake (Community Room above the Howard Lake Library). The 2008 updated history book will be on sale. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library

• 10 a.m. – 18th Annual One Block Run (Starts south of City Hall)

• 10 a.m. – PeeWee Reese Baseball Tournament (Yager Field)

• 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. – HLWW National Honor Society Car Wash (Munson Lakes Nutrition). Donations accepted

• 10 a.m.-3 p.m. – Petting Zoo at the Country Store (Highway 12). Refreshments. Sponsored by Country Store

• 10 a.m.-8 p.m. – Root Beer Floats for $1.50 sponsored by Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center. Matching funds applied for through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Wright County Chapter

• 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. – Carnival Games (fire station). Sponsored by GND Royalty Committee and “Fired-Up Lions”

• 11 a.m. – Safety Hopper Bouncer - free fun for the children (fire station). Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association and Public Education Committee

• 12-4 p.m. – Authentic PowWow - Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Sioux Tribe (Middle School parking lot, formerly the high school, north side of school)

• 12 p.m. – Burger and Fries (near fire station)

• 12 p.m. – Beer Garden (near fire station)

• 12 p.m. – Hot Dogs and Beer at Fishing Contest weigh-in (Lion’s Park, Howard Lake Lions)

• 1-4 p.m. –Dunk Tank (fire station)

• 1 p.m. – Bingo, sponsored by HLWW After Prom, under the tent

• 1 p.m. – “Feed the Sheep” to culminate a food shelf drive for Wright County Community Action Food Shelf. Sponsored by the youth groups of First Presbyterian Church, St. John’s Church, Blessed Hope Church and Howard Lake Christian Church. (Results to be announced at the fire station)

• 2 p.m. – Turtle Races (fire station)

• 2:30 p.m. – Toilet Bowl Races - Near the Fire Station - Trophy

• 4:30-7:30 p.m. – Pork Chop Dinner by the Howard Lake Fire Department (fire station)

• 5-7 p.m. – French Lake Wrestling Association (near fire station)

• 6 p.m. – Orphans Baseball Tournament (third-place game at Memorial Field)

• 7:15 p.m. – Orphans Baseball Tournament (Championship Game)

• 8 p.m.-12 a.m. – Music by “High Noon” under the tent (fire station)

• 10 p.m. – Fireworks at Memorial Park - Courtesy of Security State Bank and City of Howard Lake. (If rained out on Friday)

Sunday, June 22

• 8 a.m. – 5K Run/Walk (N.E. side of Howard Lake to Memorial Park) Proceeds to Howard Lake Watershed Alliance. Matching funds by Thrivent

• 12 p.m. – PeeWee Reese Baseball Tournament (Yager Field)

• 10:30 a.m. – Community Church Service to be held under the tent at the fire station (new location). Bring your own lawnchair

• 12 p.m. – Burger and Fries Stand (fire station)

• 12 p.m. – Beer Garden (fire station)

• 1-4 p.m. – Dunk Tank (fire station)

• 1-4 p.m. – Car Show (Middle School parking lot - North side)

• 2 p.m. – Grande Day Parade (Line up I p.m. at Wright County Fairgrounds)

• 3 p.m. – Entertainment under the tent (fire station)

• 6 p.m. – Royalty Coronation (new HLWW High School, County Road, in the Laker Theater)

• 6 p.m. – Raffle Drawing for cash prizes sponsored by Howard Lake Good Neighbor Day Committee during the coronation

Beautification winner of hanging basket contest sponsored by Howard Lake Business Association.

• Evening – Howard Lake Fire Department raffle drawings (fire station) – Arctic Cat 650 4X4, four wheeler
