An organizational meeting for the Friends of the Dassel Library is tentatively set for Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m. in the Dassel Apartments’ community room, 840 3rd St. N., Dassel.
When Dassel City Council Member Wayne Medcraft was appointed to the council, he had listed as one of his goals for the city to improve the library. The goal is “to be open more hours and days, to have more computers, to make the library a cultural center, and to increase services, especially for older and disabled adults,” he said.
Medcraft will be working with Pam Dille and Jeannett Stottrup of Litchfield to establish a Dassel chapter of the Friends of the Library. Dille and Stottrup were influential in the creation of the Litchfield Friends of the Library, and the subsequent building of a new Litchfield library, Medcraft said.
The role of Friends of the Library is to increase public awareness of the library and its many services. Friends of the Library sponsor cultural, literary, educational and civic-oriented programming. It supports the needs of the library by holding book sales, open houses, booths at the Meeker County Fair, fundraisers, and by supporting children’s summer reading programs.
Interested Dassel residents or library patrons are encouraged to attend this meeting. For additional details contact Medcraft at (320) 9200.
