Isaac’s wish comes true in Delano

May 5, 2008

A trip to Delano was included in a special day planned recently by Wishes & More for 6-year-old Isaac (last name withheld) from South St. Paul, who has been diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma.

After being referred to Wishes & More, an organization that grants wishes to children fighting a terminal or life-threatening illness, Isaac was visited by two of the organization’s volunteers who wanted to make his greatest wish come true.

The typical 6-year-old boy imagines busting bad guys with Batman or playing cops and robbers with the neighbors. However, Isaac’s imagination takes him – not to secret realms with super heroes – but to hospital-free days and sleep-filled nights.

Karla Blomberg, president of the organization explained, “Instead of choosing to go to Disney World or another vacation destination, we found that Isaac’s wish was to have his own ‘huge salt water tank.’ We also discovered that he loves animals and cowboys, so we incorporated it all in the granting of his wish.”

Isaac’s wish come true began April 18, when Wishes & More, along with the help of World of Fish, Chuck and Don’s Pet Food Outlet, and General Pet Supply, delivered a 105-gallon salt water fish tank and set it up in his room.

On long sleepless nights, when Isaac’s illness keeps him up, he will have the warm glow of his beautiful fish tank and the company of his new fish.

When the tank’s delicate environment was ready, April 26, Isaac was able to choose his fish from an exotic collection at World of Fish, located in Minneapolis.

Wishes & More made Isaac’s day that much more special by picking him up in a limo and first bringing him to the Minneapolis Park Police barn to meet the “cowboys of today” – Minneapolis park police officers. Sgt. Brian Rodgers escorted him to meet and ride their horses.

After an hour of cowboy fun, Isaac was taken to lunch at Star West Chevrolet Honda Sports in Delano, where he rode the “big boys’ toys.”

Finally, he ventured to the World of Fish, where he chose from a number of exotic species of new fish to fill his tank.
