The Highway 7 construction project has been moving forward without major obstacles.

Crews have begun excavation of the roadbed in preparation for construction of a passing lane between Carver County Road 21 and Tacoma Avenue.

Centerline and driveway culverts are also being installed in this area.

The intersection of Highway 25 and Highway 7 in Carver County remains closed, and work continues on construction of a roundabout at this intersection.

MnDOT Engineer Kelly Brunkhorst said crews have been installing storm sewers and backfilling with sand at the intersection.

Brunkhorst said she still hopes that the Highway 25 intersection and everything east of that will be open by September 8.

In McLeod County, crews had placed gravel on half of the grading area between McLeod County Road 15 and Eagle Avenue, and were continuing to prepare the rest of this section for gravel.

One person at last Wednesday’s project update meeting asked if MnDOT plans to reduce the grade west of McLeod County Road 9 so that eastbound traffic will have a better view of the intersection.

“That is the plan,” Brunkhorst replied.
