Mike Buerskin, owner of Mike’s Transmission and Auto Repair, has moved his business from downtown Cokato to a more visible location along Highway 12.

For three years, Mike’s Transmission was located at 395 Broadway Avenue. As of Dec. 1, the repair shop has moved to 650 Cokato Street, Highway 12 in the former Snow and Sun Country building (Snow and Sun Country is in the same location, just a building over).

The reason for the move is “growing pains – a good thing,” Buerskin said.

The new building allows for more space and highway visibility.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Buerskin said, adding he grew out of the former shop as soon as he moved in.

Now, he has more than two times the space of his previous shop, He does miss the convenience of being next to First National Bank, Buerskin said.

From Glencoe, Buerskin moved to his home between Silver Lake and Cokato three years ago. He’s been in transmission and auto repair for approximately 15 years.

Buerskin does everything in-house and on his own, pulling out transmissions, rebuilding and replacing them in about three days.

Although he is currently on his own, Buerskin is seriously considering hiring a full-time (and possibly a part-time) technician in the near future.

Buerskin chose a slower time of the year to move his business so it wouldn’t get so hectic, he said.

Mike’s Transmission is one of the only such businesses in the area that rebuilds transmissions. He also offers a shuttle back to work or home.

All of the work is guaranteed up to one year, or 12,000 miles.

Buerskin’s hours of business are Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays by appointment.

The phone number has not changed, (320) 286-6500.
