A portion of Highway 7 is getting wider, with the addition of passing lanes between Carver County Road 21 and Tacoma Avenue.

MnDOT Engineer Kelly Brunkhorst said during Wednesday’s project update meeting that removal of the roadbed material was about 75 percent complete.

Work continues on the roundabout at Highway 7 and Highway 25. Crews were installing lighting, as well as curb and gutter, at the intersection last week.

In McLeod County, the road surface has been removed at the intersection of Highway 7 and McLeod County Road 9, and crews are removing gravel from this location and hauling it to the new passing lane section between McLeod County Road 15 and Eagle Avenue.

After the material has been removed, crews will begin to re-grade the intersection to include turn lanes, and cut back the crest of the hill on Highway 7 just west of the intersection, Brunkhorst said.

Coming up:

The intersection of Highway 7 and McLeod County Road 2 in Silver Lake will be closed sometime in the next week and a half so crews can begin construction of turn lanes.

Brunkhorst said changeable message boards will be placed on County Road 2 prior to the closure to warn motorists when the intersection will be closed.
