He makes all things new

Spring is around the corner. Although it seems like winter will never end, some day in the next few weeks, we’ll wake up to a sunny day with temperatures well above freezing. It’ll seem like a new day has arrived.

It’s similar to the promise we receive from God, that God will make all things new (Rev. 21). Every day in God’s creation is a new day. While we still wrestle with the difficulties life can bring, a new day brings potential and possibility.

“Behold, I make all things new!” This announcement comes from a God who changes and yet, always stays the same. This God who changes is a God that we cannot grasp hold of, no matter how much we might want to.

Although our God changes, there is one thing that is always the same: our God loves us and gives us the gift of faith. As faithful people, I hope that we can look to our faith in God, our Creator – a Creator who gives us ice-cold, snowy days that threaten our very existence, followed by months of sun and rain that let us bring forth nourishment from the ground so that we might live.

We live with faith in this God, this God who makes everything new, and constantly loves us. God has given us this gift of faith so that we might navigate our way through all the difficulties of life, while keeping our faith in God, and not ourselves or something else.

Listen to this faith in the next few weeks and months. Come back to church if you haven’t been in a while. Reach out to those you may not have spoken to in a while. Lend a helping hand to someone in need.

Our promise from God overcomes all our fears about the future so that today, we might live by faith.
