We are certainly living in hard economic times.
Many are confused and hopeless about their future because they cannot see an end to all the joblessness, foreclosures, stock market losses, and business closings. We seem to have come to the point where everything has been put on hold, including vacation, college, and projects we had planned to complete.
When we look into the book of Jeremiah in the Old Testament, chapter 29:11-14, we read these prophetic words, “For I know what I have planned for you, says the Lord. I have planned to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope. When you call out to Me and come to Me in prayer, I will hear your prayers. When you seek Me in prayer and worship, you will find Me available to you. If you seek Me with all your heart and soul, I will make Myself available to you, says the Lord.”
Even though these words were written a long time ago, it has strong relevance for us today. When we have placed our lives in God through his son Jesus Christ, we are reminded by this scripture that God has a plan for each one of us. When we look down, we do not see ahead of us; but when we look up, we are able to see our future.
As Christians, we do not live aimlessly when it comes to the present and future. Our faith shows and leads us into the future, in spite of all the negative things happening in our society and in the world.
God plans to prosper us, not harm us. We have to be patient, and learn from all that is happening around us. As we experience losses, we gain experiences that make us strong.
We are rich in Jesus, and God also makes us rich through the things we accumulate. Richness comes for some quickly, and others, in incremental steps, but nevertheless, rich.
God’s plan is to give us a future filled with hope. So, we are a people of hope, and not endless futility. God was, is, and will be part of our future. When we call out to Him and pray to Him, He hears our prayers. He is not deaf or indifferent.
However, God will not be manipulated. He knows our needs and He knows when to make His provisions happen. God’s assurance is guaranteed.
God is always available to us. He is never absent. He is behind, in front, and beside us at all times. When we seek Him in prayer and worship, He is always available.
Isn’t it nice to know our God is always there with us as we communicate with Him every day or every moment of the day? This is one of the most comforting feelings we can experience as a child of God, when things around us seem to be falling apart.
Lastly, when we feel like things are not going right, we must remember to always stand on God’s word. He is always in the scene and He wants us to trust Him. Lean on Him by faith. He will brace you up for the occasion.
Do not let your heart be troubled and your needs overwhelm you. God always knows what you are experiencing, and He would never abandon you even in your darkest hour.
Always remember what He has said in the book of Jeremiah, “When you call out to Me and come to Me in prayer, I will hear your prayers.”
