HOWARD LAKE, WAVERLY, LESTER PRAIRIE, NEW GERMANY, MONTROSE, MN – Plenty of activities are scheduled for National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 4. Neighborhoods in Howard Lake, Waverly, Montrose, New Germany, and Lester Prairie plan to offer a variety of activities.

Winsted will be conducting its National Night Out on a different day, that being Thursday, Aug. 6 (see separate article).

Mayer will not be offering anything this year, commented Administrator Luayn Murphy.

“This event is a nationwide event that encourages and gives neighbors the opportunity to socialize as well as giving them the chance to get materials about community concerns,” commented Pam Henry-Neaton of Waverly.

The following is a breakdown of events planned:

The Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted MEADA group will be hosting National Night Out in Waverly on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Waverly Railroad Park.

Present along with representatives of the MEADA group at the event will be the Wright County Sheriff’s Department, Allina Ambulance and The Waverly Fire Department.

Hotdogs and beverages will be furnished by Pete’s Grocery, Waverly Lions and Waverly Fire Department. Citizens State Bank of Waverly will provide root beer floats and the Waverly royalty will be serving them.

The Waverly Boosters will be there also to provide activities for the children.

Door prizes for all ages will finish out the evening. Monetary donations from the Montrose-Waverly Chamber and the Goldberg Bonding Company, Inc. have been received to help with this event.

Any questions may be directed to Pam at (952) 955-1140.

MEADA will also be accepting food shelf donations the night of National Night Out for the local food shelf.

Howard Lake

The Howard Lake Police Department will sponsor National Night Out in Howard Lake Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Three neighborhoods have signed up to host block parties – the 11th Street cul-de-sac, Willow Court, and 5th Street between 12th and 13th Avenues.

K-9 demonstrations will take place at each party, and a fire truck will be at each site, as well.

Howard Lake Police Chief Tracy Vetruba encouraged all residents to observe National Night Out, and to contact the police department if they would like to plan a block party.

Giveaways will also be part of the event in all three locations.

For more information, contact the Howard Lake Police Department at (320) 543-3670, ext.

Montrose’s National Night Out will take place 6 p.m. at Lions Park. There will be free hot dogs and root beer floats, fire truck tours, and music from the KRWC Road Show.

National Night Out is an opportunity for all residents, businesses, churches, and civic groups to come together to promote a safe and healthy community.

New Germany

Council Member Shirley Jaeger said the City of New Germany is planning a National Night Out event Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in Tower Park (behind city hall).

A representative from the Carver County Sheriff’s office will be on hand, as will members of the New Germany Fire Department.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Jaeger said the event will be an opportunity for people to get out and meet their neighbors.

Note: the New Germany Council meeting was moved from Tuesday to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 to accommodate the National Night Out event.

Lester Prairie

Lester Prairie has several events planned for National Night Out, said Police Chief Bob Carlson. This includes a National Guard helicopter at the city park. The fire department is also participating. More details will be released next week.
