Red Rooster Days parade update

Aug. 31, 2009

DASSEL, MN – The 2009 parade in Dassel will feature the Dassel-Cokato Charger band, the DC Charger drum line, and the Phoenix Drum line from Hutchinson, as well as, a new route.

The 50th annual Red Rooster Days parade will be honoring past event chairpersons. People having cars or trucks from the ‘50s are encouraged to join the parade this year, especially it they are convertibles from 1958-65, for the past chairpersons to ride in.

If interested in having your car serve as a parade car for one of the past chairpersons or other honorees, contact Wayne Medcraft, 2009 parade chair at (320) 275-9200 or e-mail mederaftwgyahoo.com.

Parade route

At the request of marching units and large float drivers, the parade route will be changed.

The planned route is for the DC band to march down Fifth Street and then load onto waiting buses once they cross Centennial Avenue. The Drum line will then be bussed back to the church parking lot on Lake Street where they will rejoin the parade as a separate unit.

Considerable problems were experienced at the intersection of Third Street and Linart Avenue for large floats attempting to negotiate this tight corner, causing big gaps in the parade. Large floats will be encouraged to opt out by a parade official at this point. Smaller units will follow the normal parade route till the end.

Tractor exhibition

Restored antique tractors driven in the parade may be exhibited to the general public after the parade in the parking lot by the Mushroom building. Owners are encouraged to stay with their tractors and tell visitors about their vehicles. Tractors must be removed by 8 p.m. Saturday night.
