Smithsonian ‘Fences’ exhibit opens to good crowd at Dassel Museum

DASSEL, MN – A steady flow of curious people attended the opening program Oct. 25 of the traveling exhibit from the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, offered at the Dassel Museum via the Dassel Area Historical Society.

The traveling exhibit will be at the museum for six weeks, from Oct. 25 through Saturday, Dec. 5, and will include four separate programs with local speakers and entertainers.

There will be a special presentation with music by Minnesota folk singer and song writer, Charlie McGuire Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

McGuire will also be visiting with Dassel Elementary fourth grade classrooms during the day, interacting with students regarding the themes and concepts of the exhibit.

Then, Dassel resident Richard Tormanen will share “Between Fences Finns” on the culture of Finnish settlers in the Dassel and Cokato area Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.

There is no admission charge for any of the events or exhibits.

Expanded hours

Expanded hours are being offered at the Dassel Museum for the Smithsonian exhibit “Between Fences,” scheduled through Saturday, Dec. 5. Hours and tour times are:

Tues. – Fri., 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tours: 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Saturday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tours: 10 and 11:30 a.m.
unday, 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. Tours: 1 and 2 p.m.
Monday, 6:30 – 8 p.m. Tour: 7 p.m.
