COKATO, MN A barn fire in French Lake Township was reported last Monday evening at the Mark and Heidi Janckila farm about five miles north of Cokato on Wright County Road 3.
The Cokato Fire Department responded immediately when the call was made at about 4:30 p.m., with two other departments responding as well, Annandale and Howard Lake.
“They were spectacular,” commented Heidi Janckila about the fire departments’ response. “They did a wonderful job.”
The firefighters spent hours at the scene, bringing the fire under control.
In addition, neighbors Mark and Nels Kotila worked for hours with their backhoe against the burning hay, Heidi said.
The suspected cause is an electric heater that was used to keep water pipes from freezing in the barn, according to Mike Even. “Nothing was suspicious,” he added.
No animals were lost in the blaze, Heidi said.
