COKATO, MN - To make it more convenient for their patients, Allina Medical Clinic – Cokato has added a doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Leslie Akram DO offers OB/GYN care to women of all ages including pregnancies, preventive care, and minor surgeries.

Akram is originally from Litchfield, having graduated from Litchfield Senior High School in 1993.

She received her medical training through Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, with her residency at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, and graduated in 2007.

Akram has been with the Allina Medical Clinic – Buffalo since September 2007. She started seeing patients in Cokato March 5.

In the past, Cokato patients had to travel to Buffalo for OB/GYN care. Akram is looking forward to making it more convenient for her patients by being in Cokato.

Though for now, Akram is only in Cokato every other Thursday, starting in September, her two partners, Teri and Mike McNelis will also be seeing patients in Cokato, along with Akram.

“Our (Cokato) patients are excited to have us here,” Akram said.

She loves taking care of women, especially pregnant patients.

“I like being a part of such an exciting time in their lives,” Akram said.

Her two favorite components of her job are deliveries and surgery, which she performs at the Buffalo Hospital.

In her practice, Akram performs a lot of minimally invasive surgeries such as laparoscopic hysterectomies, in which the incision is much smaller and the recovery time shorter.

Akram also likes the patient population she works with because the majority of the women she sees are either healthy or treatable.

She also likes working in “small-town Minnesota.”

Akram is married, with two children, ages 2 and 6 months.

Allina Medical Clinic – Cokato is located at 110 Olsen Boulevard.
