Late-week rain has caused slight delay

DELANO, MN Rain has caused a delay in the opening of Highway 12 in Delano, with officials now saying the road will be open by Saturday’s celebration in downtown Delano.
Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) planned to open Highway 12 in Delano Tuesday, Oct. 6 to through-traffic, members of the Delano Area Chamber of Commerce Highway 12 Task Force learned from Delano City Administrator Phil Kern at Tuesday morning’s meeting.
Officials learned Friday, however, that date has since been pushed back to the end of next week, due to late-week rainfall.
Crews have been working toward completing the project and opening the road to regular traffic with an early October goal in mind, according to an update from the City of Delano Friday. The recent rain has pushed back completion projections and the contractor is now working to open the road by Saturday, Oct. 10
Kern said the project completion depends on how quick crews can install the stoplight at the intersection of Highway 12 and Bridge Avenue.
The last layer of bituminous also needs to be laid yet, along with the striping of the roadway, which was set to take place Friday and Monday, but the rain may also bump this back.
Kern said some of the streetlights will not yet be up Tuesday.
