HOWARD LAKE, MN – Run by Howard Lake business people, the Howard Lake Business Association is all about promoting what Howard Lake has to offer.

Members of the association meet once per month, and along with planning several big events the group sponsors, the meetings foster discussion about current happenings in town.

Usually, Howard Lake’s city administrator and police chief attend the monthly meetings, as well, to keep everyone posted as to what is new at city hall.

The main events the association sponsors are spread out throughout the year. The biggest event being the Howard Lake Community Expo, and pancake and sausage breakfast.

The expo is well attended and not only allows local businesses, as well as businesses from surrounding communities, to promote themselves, but rewards community members by serving a free pancake and sausage breakfast.

The breakfast is prepared and served by members of the business association, and usually serves more than 1,200 people each year.

“The Howard Lake Expo welcomes any business from anywhere,” according to business association treasurer Bonnie Seegmiller.

A new contest that is in its second year is a flower basket design contest that takes place during Howard Lake’s Good Neighbor Days. The contest is marketed toward businesses to enable them to design and plant a hanging basket that will then be hung either on Eighth Street or Highway 12 with a marker that has their business name on it. This contest is sponsored by both the Howard Lake Business Association and the City of Howard Lake.

The business association also sponsors the Howard Lake Royal Team, according to business association president Randy Heuer. It gives the outgoing royalty a financial scholarship.

“We also sponsor some sort of float or parade unit in the grande day parade during Good Neighbor Days,” Heuer said. “This year, the business association, along with KRWC radio, sponsored Twins mascot TC Bear.”

Additionally, the business association financially assists with the Good Neighbor Days kick-off dinner.

“Our next big event will be the Taste of the Holidays, which we might actually change the name of the event this year,” Heuer said.
