LORETTO, MN It’s here the 10th annual Loretto Fun Fest, set for Saturday, Sept. 19. There will be plenty of new activities, as well as old favorites.
The event will start with the grand opening of the new bike path with walkers and bikers meeting at the south side of town by the Elsen farm and ending on the north side of town by the bank. All are welcome to walk or bike the new path. The line-up is planned for 1:30 p.m.
Fun Fest activities will take place at the LCAA ball fields, across from the 21st Century Bank on Hennepin County Road 19.
New this year will be the Oliver Tractor Club show, starting at 2 p.m. There will be demonstrations with vintage tractors.
“They will be plowing a wheat field on a nearby farm,” Patnode said. “It should be fun to watch.”
Another new attraction will be the Pair-A-Dice Cruisers Car Club, from 2 to 7 p.m. All show car owners are invited to display their cars. Contact Ed Larson at (612) 554-6640 for more information.
There will also be plenty of children’s activities at this year’s Fun Fest. Inflatables will be available all afternoon.
From 3:30 to 7 p.m., there will be a wide variety of games, as well as face painting, concessions, a clown, a petting zoo, and pony rides.
A men’s softball game, Northside vs. Southside, will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
From 4 to 7 p.m., delicious food will be available from Axel’s and Detour 19. Loretto Lions bingo, with great prizes, will also take place from 4 to 7 p.m.
A K-9 demonstration will be at 4:30 p.m.
For the first time, a helicopter from North Memorial Hospital will be at Fun Fest. People will have the opportunity to tour the inside of the helicopter and learn more about it, from 5 to 6 p.m.
The Loretto Fire Department is sponsoring a new attraction this year, called Cowabunga Bingo. For this non-traditional bingo, cows in a fenced off area decide which space is played According to the poster, “you have to see this to believe it!”
Area police departments will team up against local fire departments for the celebrity softball challenge, starting at 5:30 p.m. Cities include Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina, Corcoran, Hennepin County, West Hennepin, and more.
Fireworks will begin at 8 p.m. Viewers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Glow-in-the-dark necklaces will be available at the concession stand. Music will be by Pure Platinum.
A DJ will be providing musical entertainment at Fun Fest this year, instead of the Teddy Bear Band, Patnode said.
If it rains, all activities will be moved to Saints Peter and Paul Parish Center in Loretto. Rain date for fireworks will be Saturday, Sept. 26.
Volunteers (age 15 or older) are needed to help with games, setup, take down, and general assistance.
