Get ready for Winsted’s 36th annual summer festival

WINSTED, MN – The 36th annual Winsted Summer Festival promises to be a “summertime blast” of fun with a list of events planned for all ages beginning Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 9.

The weekend highlights include fireworks over Winsted Lake at dusk Friday, Sunday’s parade at 1 p.m., and the ambassadors’ coronation, which will take place Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Mill Reserve Park (not Hainlin Park as listed on the festival poster).

There is still time and available spots to sign up for Sunday’s parade with Dale Maus (320) 485-3825.

Friday, Aug. 7

The summer festival kickoff starts with the famous Bratbusters who are celebrating their 21st anniversary in grilling.

Sponsored by the Winsted Area Chamber of Commerce, the four seasoned chefs will be available for autographs and will start serving their brats at Mill Reserve Park, Friday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m.

For the children, there will be Fun Bounce and a treasure hunt.

Music will be provided by the Mid-Minnesota Concert Band at 6 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., bingo is offered at the American Legion and karaoke at Mill Reserve Park until 11:30 p.m.

Fireworks will be part of the evening’s entertainment at dusk.

Saturday, Aug. 8

A new addition to this year’s event is a city-wide garage sale that is being planned in conjunction with the festival Saturday, Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To register call Mary Kay at (320) 420-8889 before Tuesday Aug. 4.

A list of the garage sale locations will be available Friday, Aug. 7 at Mill Reserve Park prior to the fireworks.

Food and beverages will be available throughout the day at Hainlin Park.

The park will also have a number of sporting events for adults beginning early in the morning.

Anyone interested in men’s modified softball should register with Troy Schmidt (320) 485-3663.

To be part of the co-ed volleyball tournament, register with Neal DeMars (320) 395-2875.

A car wash in the Five Star Direct Mail parking lot, off of McLeod County Rd. 1 by the Winsted water tower, is being sponsored by the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted sophomore class from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday afternoon at Hainlin Park, there will be a number of activities for children.

The children’s parade leaves the Blue Note parking lot at 1 p.m., and a clown show will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Hainlin Park shelter. The children’s pedal pull is scheduled at 2 p.m.

Games for all ages will be available at 3 p.m.

Children’s games include Fun Bounce and mini-train rides.

For teens and adults, there are water wars, wall climber, and dunk tank.

An open mic for sharing a variety of talents is available from 3 to 6 p.m. for anyone who has registered with Gary at (320) 485-4166.

A rib dinner served by the American Legion at 161 1st Street North begins at 4:30 p.m. until all the ribs are gone.

The menu includes Tony’s ribs, potato salad, beans, coleslaw, dessert, coffee or lemonade, plus takeouts are available.

The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under.

The proceeds go to help the military service men and women.

Show off a favorite dance move with rock and roll music by Zeew Factor Band at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 9

Breakfast is served by Winsted’s Fire Department Sunday at 7 a.m. at the Fire Hall.

The menu includes pancakes, French toast, sausage, milk, juice and coffee.

Adults pay $6 and children three and under $3.

There is a fireworks jar and the Winsted Fire Department will match the first $500 donated toward the fireworks.

At 10 a.m., an outdoor community service will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 410 1st St. N.

Bring a blanket or a chair and find a favorite spot to sit at 1 p.m. for the parade.

Then head over to Hainlin Park at 2 p.m. to see the car show. Anyone interested in showing a car should register with Ben Lauzer (320) 492-2249.

Games for all ages will be offered at Hainlin Park beginning at 2 p.m.

And don’t miss the Dixie Hicks modern country band, which will entertain the crowd at 3 p.m. in Hainlin Park.

The coronation of the new ambassadors is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Mill Reserve Park.

Winsted Summer Festival button winners will be announced at the coronation. Winners do not need to be present to win.
