Seek His wisdom

While on vacation, I had the opportunity to take my two nephews and niece out fishing.

We began our afternoon fishing the greatest game fish the Lord made: the northern pike! I had been out two days earlier with my dad, so I knew what color lure the fish had been hitting.

I thought this might be one of those teachable moments, so I told them we would start by trolling with Rattlin’ Raps, but they could choose which color to use. I also told them to think about what might be the best way to choose their color.

My two nephews each chose a lure, and again, I challenged my niece to make her choice. She began to catch on, as she asked something like, “Which one would you choose?”

I told her that I would select the chartreuse one, so we put that on her line. Within five minutes, she was pulling in the first northern pike. The second one hit about 10 minutes later, while her brothers had no action.

How many times in life have I made choices that God allowed me to make, but I did not take time to consult Him. He is the One who not only knows the past, but knows the future. Think about how foolish it would be to go out fishing with Jesus and not make use of His knowledge!

Are you consulting the Lord by reading His Word and seeing His wisdom for your life these days? James 1:15 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

What an amazing God He is who allows you to make your own choices in life, but all the while hopes you will consult Him to make the best choices for you. God gives His best to those who leave the choice to Him.
