COKATO, HOWARD LAKE, The founders of the Minnesota Garlic Festival, Marienne Kreitlow and Jerry Ford of Howard Lake, will share their story, musical talents, and their love for garlic at the Cokato Public Library Wednesday, July 14.
The program, Love & Garlic, begins at 7 p.m. and is said to be “a whimsical, yet informative show about the king of herbs, and also vampires and far-fetched garlic-related folklore,” according to Kreitlow’s web site.
The couple’s music ranges from “ethereal to rollicking” with songs from Marienne’s most recent album, “Garlic and other Forces of Nature.” Such songs include “I Love Garlic” and “Stinking Rose,” which is another name for garlic.
The couple will share how to grow garlic, the history of it, along with its “magical” healing ingredient.
“It’s very tongue-and-cheek and lighthearted,” Kreitlow said.
The mission of this program is not only to teach about garlic, but also to share the couple’s mission of caring for the land in a sustainable way, she said.

This program is funded, in part, with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage fund and free to the public.
