DASSEL, MN – Since 2006, when the City of Dassel purchased the former A+ Marine building along Highway 12, the second half of the building – opposite the municipal liquor store – has sat empty, awaiting a tenant.

Leasing the remaining 5,000 square feet would greatly help the liquor store’s bottom line, according to Dassel Mayor Mike Scanlon.

The city council suggested completing the infrastructure, which would include a bathroom, furnace, and air conditioner, would help attract a tenant.

The construction will also include a shared entrance with the liquor store, according to Scanlon.

The council approved, at its Dec. 28 meeting, to spend $15,000 for the improvements.

Bids were awarded to Rokala Construction for carpentry, Tim Servin Plumbing for the bathroom plumbing, Thomas Beckman for electrical work involved, and Action Air for the HVAC system. The only heat source until now was heated floors.

The building is set up with a 2,900-square-foot warehouse/showroom and approximately 2,100 square feet for a shop/garage.

Scanlon, who also sits on Dassel’s Economic Development Authority, said this is an ideal location for a retail store of some kind; possibly a hardware store.

The work is expected to be done by mid-February.
