HOWARD LAKE, MN Howard Lake city employees are not taking the news of the recent earthquake in Haiti without action, since they have decided to personally pick up a challenge thrown out by the City of Albertville to help the victims.
Employees from the City of Albertville challenged other city employees to come up with funds that could be used toward Haitian relief efforts, said Howard Lake Administrator Kelly Hinnenkamp.
St. Michael responded to Albertville, but decided to make a push toward Shelter Boxes, which are boxes filled with basic essentials, such as water purification units, eating utensils, tools and various other items, which are sponsored by Rotary International on a regular basis. Shelter Box itself is a non-profit organization with its web site at www.shelterboxusa.org.
Like St. Michael, Howard Lake decided to do the same. However, the goal is to raise $1,000, which is a bit more than 10 full time employees can handle, Hinnenkamp noted.
Therefore, the City of Howard Lake is looking to partner with a Howard Lake organization or business that is interested in participating please contact Kelly at (320) 543-3670. Donations will be received through Wednesday, Jan. 20.
