LORETTO A St. Louis Park man was seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident last Monday, June 7, at 3:36 p.m. in downtown Loretto.
Todd Robert Bachman, 48, from St. Louis Park, was driving a Jeep Cherokee southbound on Hennepin County Road 19 into Loretto.
Medina Police Chief Ed Belland said there was a tow truck parked on the street across from the Loretto Fire Department, and the Jeep Cherokee hit the back of the tow truck, damaging the passenger side of the vehicle, and flipping the Jeep Cherokee over.
Medina Police Officer Kevin Boecker happened to be running radar in the area near the railroad tracks in Loretto at the time and witnessed the collision.
Boecker and a passerby, identified as a nurse, pulled the driver from the vehicle and discovered he was not breathing, Belland said. CPR was performed on the man and he was transported by air ambulance to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
The air ambulance helicopter landed on the baseball field in Loretto.
“There were baseball games going on, but they cleared the fields,” Belland said.
As of late Wednesday, Bachman remained in critical but stable condition at North Memorial Hospital and was undergoing surgery, Belland said.
Hennepin County Road 19 in Loretto was closed for approximately two hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene, Belland added.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Loretto Fire Department, West Hennepin Public Safety, and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
