The 11th annual Loretto Fun Fest is destined to create a spark of excitement in the community Saturday, Sept. 18.
All activities will be at the Loretto ball fields, across from 21st Century Bank on Hennepin County Road 19. If it rains, the event will be moved to St. Peter and Paul Parish Center in Loretto.
“We’re hopeful it’ll be a nice day,” city clerk Cindy Patnode said.
New this year is a 25-foot climbing wall, which will be available from 2 to 7 p.m.
“Wristbands are $9, and kids get unlimited use of the inflatables and rock climbing wall,” Patnode said.
Children with wristbands can also ride the kiddie train as many times as they’d like, from 3:30 to 7 p.m.
Starting at 2 p.m., the Pair-A-Dice Cruisers Car Club will be displaying show cars. To enter a vehicle, contact Ed Larson at (612) 554-6640.
Music will be provided by DJs Jim and Cameron Jensen of Pure Platinum.
“They were there last year, and they did a great job,” Patnode said.
Local businesses will be bringing items to be given away throughout the afternoon.
Other attractions include concessions, clowns, face painting, and games. Also, the Loretto Quilters will have quilts and handmade items for sale.
Delicious food is also a part of Loretto Fun Fest, and will be available from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
“The food vendors are Bistro 11 and Choo Choo Bar and Restaurant,” Patnode said.
From 4 to 7 p.m., Bingo lovers will have the opportunity to play and win cash prizes through the Loretto Lions and Our Lady of Loretto KC.
A K-9 demonstration will take place at 4:30 p.m., and a helicopter from North Memorial Health Care will be available for viewing from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Police and fire departments from Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina, Corcoran, Hennepin County, West Hennepin, and other nearby locations have the opportunity to compete in a softball challenge from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Male residents of Loretto also have the opportunity to play softball, in a north side vs. south side tournament. People interested in playing who live on the north side of the railroad tracks can contact Archie Neumann. Those south of the tracks can contact Kent Torve. Games will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
The celebration’s finale is a fireworks show, starting at 8 p.m. Community members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, and purchase glow necklaces in the concession stand. The rain date for the fireworks is Saturday, Sept. 25.
The Loretto Fun Fest committee includes Loretto city staff, as well as Ed Belland, Walt White, Cindy Spaulding, Louise Werbowski, Kay Schumacher, Roy Spurzem, Tim Pivec, Barry Andersen, Steve Lundell, and John and Nancy Nelson.
Fun Fest attendees are asked to bring a donation for the Hanover Food Shelf.
Volunteers are needed to help with games, set up/take down and general assistance. Anyone who can spare a few hours Sept. 18 can contact city hall at (763) 479-4305 or e-mail email@example.com.
