DASSEL, MN After 14 years of serving as Meeker County Commissioner in District 3, incumbent Amy Wilde was defeated by Tim Benoit, both of Dassel, following Tuesday’s election.
Benoit received 1,300 votes, while Wilde had 957 votes.
Having led in all four townships, Benoit was pleased with the wide margins especially in Dassel and Dassel Township and having gained the trust of his citizens, which he hopes to maintain.
“I’ve got a big learning curve,” Benoit said, adding that Wilde has offered her help during the transition period.
Taking his seat on the county board, Benoit said he is “not going in with an axe to grind.” Instead, he will work to get a “handle on county government . . . and the decisions that are made.”
One of the changes Benoit would like to see would be adding public comment to each item of the agenda. He also wants to “hold the line on spending.”
Having been the first female to serve on the Meeker County Board, Wilde said, “I feel I’ve accomplished some things.”
With her term ending in December, Wilde is exploring other options she has been offered. She said she is looking forward to other opportunities that will enable her to serve the community she loves.
