WRIGHT, HENNEPIN COUNTIES, MN Delano and other area communities will recognize National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 3 with a variety of celebrations for all local citizens.
Area communities that will be hosting National Night Out events include Delano, Loretto, Independence, Maple Plain, and Rockford.
“National Night Out is all about neighborhood watch programs and getting to know your neighbor,” Delano Fire Chief Bob Van Lith said.
So, mark your calendar for Aug. 3 and make your way out to one of these National Night Out events to meet and greet your neighbors.
A National Night Out event will take place at the Delano Fire Station, located at 245 Second Street North in Delano, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
“We’re working on basically what National Night Out is all about,” Van Lith said. “It’s about your neighbor watching over you, and you watching over your neighbor.”
For this reason, Delano’s National Night Out event will be promoting neighborhood watch programs and encouaging crime prevention.
Activities for children, including a bounce house and fire truck rides, will be provided. Snacks and juice will be offered to those who attend.
According to Van Lith, the Ridgeview ambulance will be in attendance, as well as the local sheriffs.

The City of Loretto is encouraging all citizens to have their own neighborhood cookout or potluck event.
Those hosting their own National Night Out event should call the Medina Police Department at (763) 473-9209 to register their get-together.
According to the city’s website, those who register their event will receive a visit from the Medina police officers, firefighters, and city council, who will offer fire prevention tips and ways to reduce crime.
By registering before-hand, the Medina police department will get party supplies donated by Target, according to the city’s website.

Independence and Maple Plain
West Hennepin Public Safety will host “Night to Unite” from 6 to 9 p.m.
“Night to Unite” is sponsored by the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association, AAA of Minnesota/Iowa, local law enforcement agencies.
Citizens from across Independence and Maple Plain are encouraged to get together and prevent crime by meeting their neighbors.
Those who are interested in hosting their own “Night to Unite” event will receive visits from the West Hennepin Police Department and the local fire department.

A National Night Out event will be hosted by the City of Rockford at Riverside Park, located at 8220 Elm Street in downtown Rockford at 6 p.m.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
According to the city’s website, a magic show by Matt Dunn will take place, as well as entertainment by the DJ “Decibel.”
Free facepainting, finger painting, family games, prizes, and other activities will also be featured, according to the city’s website.
The Riverwood church will also be collecting school supplies for the Rockford School District.
