WRIGHT, MEEKER COUNTIES, MN Two area townships have updat es for the week of Aug. 23.
Kingston Twp. hears about possible Internet tower
At the August Kingston Township meeting, representatives from Minnesota-based Internet service provider Xtratyme gave a presentation about possibly building a tower by the community center in Kingston Township, Clerk Gail Schiefelbein said.
“They need enough interest in the area to do it,” Schiefelbein said. “They first wanted to see if there were any obstacles to putting it up.”
As far as the township is concerned, it is acceptable for Xtratyme to put up the tower.
“Our board is fine with it, because there’s no cost to the township,” Schiefelbein said.
In order to receive high-speed Internet service from the tower, a building would need a clear line of sight, without trees or other buildings in the way.
In other township news, there are about 11 tiling projects underway, Schiefelbein said.
Also, only one person has filed for the open supervisor position. The other supervisor position is still open. Voters will have the opportunity to write in a candidate, Schiefelbein said.
Stockholm gets new clerk
Jody Selseth is the new clerk for Stockholm Township, and previous clerk Diane Johnson is now the deputy clerk.
Johnson moved out of Stockholm Township, into the City of Cokato, so she is no longer eligible to be clerk.
Both Johnson and Selseth were appointed to their new positions, and their terms will expire and be up for election in March 2011.
Starting in September, Selseth will be taking over many of the clerical duties, but Johnson plans to attend meetings until the end of the year.
