WINSTED, MN The flowers and so many unique fun items for the home and yard usually displayed in front of Winsted Hardware store this time of year are missing and it makes Main Avenue in Winsted look very empty.
Nothing has been placed in front of the store since May 30, when the owners, Katy Born and Greg Gehrman, closed the store indefinitely while they wait for a buyer.
A sign posted on the door reads, “It is with regret that Katy and I have to inform you that we will be closing our doors at the end of this week, Sunday, 30th of May.”
The couple had owned and operated the hardware store for more than three years and had hopes to sell it sometime this year. However, the buyer who was interested was unable to sell his home to relocate to Winsted.
According to the sign, the couple is willing to sell the complete package of inventory, fixtures, equipment (glass cutter, key machine, paint tinting, pie threading) for well under the cost of the inventory alone, if someone commits to keeping the store in Winsted.
“We remain confident that the hardware business in Winsted has room to grow and remains a vital necessity to the community,” Gehrman wrote.
