Frugal Family Footnotes
Free fun holiday events

I momentarily logged off from the Dassel-Cokato Online Garage Sale site to write this column . . . wow, that page is addicting! Great deals from local sellers are just another way to save money and have fun!

The little snow we received recently certainly put the kids in a festive mood. It put myself in a scramble to locate boots and snow pants for the kids in our family.

In addition to all the outside fun the kids can have once the snow falls (and stays), there is plenty to do indoors, too.

Here’s just a few of some of the fun, free family events coming up in the near future in the Dassel-Cokato area. Be sure to look for more upcoming events listed in the Happenings column of the Enterprise Dispatch each week.

• The Cokato Library is offering several holiday-inspired classes and story times at their library for free in the next few weeks. Some of the titles include “The Gift” and “Holiday Craft.” Check out their website at http://www.griver.org/locations-and-hours/great-river-regional-library-cokato for more information, such as suggested ages for participants, and the dates and times of events.

• A Christmas Celebration will take place Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Dassel-Cokato Early Childhood Center. The Cokato Chamber of Commerce and the Early Childhood programs will be bringing you this festive holiday celebration. Santa will be on hand to listen to Christmas wishes (don’t forget to bring a camera).

In addition to holiday crafts and activities, local storyteller Bob Gasch will delight us with tales of the North Pole. This free event is for all children, birth through elementary age, and their families. Please call (320) 286-4120 with any questions.

• Although the Cokato location is not hosting these free classes, the Marketplace in Annandale is offering free classes on making krumkake and a holiday meal. Class information can be found on their website, http://cub-marketplace.com/freeclasses, or on the posters hanging at the Cokato Marketplace.

Now, I need to get back to the online garage sale site. As those who have become familiar with this site know (there are over 500 of us), you can’t stay away from the page long as the deals are plenty!

Happy savings!
