LESTER PRAIRIE, MN Lester Prairie School Board will conduct a special meeting tonight (Sept. 12) regarding the referendum.
The only action item on the agenda is consideration of a resolution for the issuing of general obligation bonds and calling the election.
In November, voters will be asked to approve a $4,995,000, 20-year general obligation school building bond.
Following the meeting, the board has scheduled a work session for the referendum.
During the work session, the board will put together a plan for disseminating information about the referendum.
This will include scheduling a public hearing and setting up meetings with various community groups to explain what the district is planning.
McNulty noted that one thing that has emerged from the meetings he has had so far is confusion over the term “media center.”
He explained that the terms media center and library are interchangeable. Older residents are familiar with the term library, while younger people know the facility as the media center, McNulty said. He said he will use both terms on literature in the future to avoid confusion.
During the workshop, the board will also determine the date for a district-wide mailing to get information to taxpayers.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled Monday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the school media center.
District residents will vote on the referendum at the school Tuesday, Nov. 8.
