LESTER PRAIRIE, MN Schmidty’s is open for business in Lester Prairie, and owner Tom Schmidt of St. Cloud hopes people will stop in and check it out.
Located at 282 Babcock Avenue South (the former Depot location), the new business offers fuel, food, and more.
Schmidty’s features Bases Loaded pizza and subs, and will also offer burgers and wrap sandwiches.
Schmidt said he will also have seating for up to 12 people to accommodate those who want to stop in for a quick lunch or maybe a cup of Ronnoco specialty coffee or cappuccino.
The store will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, but fuel is available via pay at the pump 24 hours per day.
The car wash is also open, and is also available 24 hours per day.
In addition to food, fuel, and beverages, the store will stock a variety of everyday items from pet food to cleaning supplies, and more.
This is the 11th Schmidty’s location. Other locations include Dassel, St. Cloud, Luxemburg, Avon, Grove City, Atwater, Cosmos, Ogilvie, Kimball, and Eden Valley.
Schmidt has been in the business since 1980.
He said he works hard to promote products and does a lot of in-store specials.
“If we give people value, they will come back,” Schmidt said.
“We offer good fast food that people can grab and go, and we carry name-brand products,” he added.
Another way Schmidty’s will offer value is through the Super Pump Card, a discount card that currently saves customers 2 cents per gallon on gas. Customers can pick up an application for the cards in the store.
Schmidt has also been busy remodeling the building to make it more appealing to customers. He opened up the front wall of the building, adding large new windows to brighten up the interior and to “add curb appeal.”
The space has been vacant since the former Depot gas station closed in November 2009.
Schmidt has hired local employees, including store manager Nancy Johnson, to staff the Lester Prairie location.
The phone number for Schmidty’s is (320) 395-4388.
