DELANO, MN – If you’re a member of a military family, or would like to support those who are, you’ll probably be interested in Delano’s new Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program.

The public is encouraged to attend a kickoff open house for the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon committee at Delano City Hall (234 2nd St. N.) Tuesday, July 26 at 7 p.m.

“The National Guard will give a 20-minute presentation to tell the community about Beyond the Yellow Ribbon,” Delano City Clerk Marlene Kittock said, adding that they will share stories of how it has worked in other communities.

The goal of Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is to create a comprehensive support network to meet the needs of service members, military families, and employers across the state of Minnesota.

It assists with reintegrating soldiers once they return home, and also helps families with fundamental services while their loved one is away.

The committee has been meeting the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Delano Fire Station.

“As it grows, we might move around from city to city,” Kittock said.

According to the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon kickoff flyer, the group would like neighboring communities to partner in the effort.

Dassel, Cokato, Howard Lake, Waverly, Maple Plain, Rockford, Hanover, Greenfield, Mayer, Winsted, Loretto, Independence, Montrose, Watertown, Buffalo, and the townships of Franklin, Rockford, Woodland, Marysville, Middleville, Victor and Watertown are all welcome to participate.

The committee is looking for support from many people, such as educators, elected officials, employers, faith-based organizations, veterans and civic organizations, public safety/judicial, medical and social service organizations, and volunteers from the community.
