Filings open for cities, school board

Several seats are up for election this fall for the cities of Dassel, Cokato, Kingston, and Darwin, as well as Dassel-Cokato School Board and Kingston Township. Filings open 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 and close 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Cokato City Council

There are three seats open on the Cokato City Council come January including that of mayor, which is a 2-year-term, now served by Gordy Erickson.

The two 4-year council seats up for election are those served by Forrest “Butch” Amundsen and Carl Harju.

Dassel City Council

There are three seats open on the Dassel City Council including that of mayor, which is a 2-year term, currently served by Mike Scanlon.

The two 4-year council seats up for election are those served by Bob Lalone and Jack Adams.

Darwin City Council

Three seats open on the Darwin City Council include that of the mayor, which is a 2-year term, now served by Josh Johnson.

The council seats that are up for election are those of former council member Diane Porth, and current council member Tim Mathison.

Kingston City Council

Kingston City Council also has three seats up for election this year, that of Mayor John Smith, a 2-year term; and the 4-year council seats currently served by Jim Herda and Doug Serbus.

Dassel-Cokato School Board

The three seats open on the Dassel-Cokato School Board are 4-year terms and are currently served by Irene Bender, Mark Linder, and Tracy McConkey.

Kingston Township

Kingston Township will also have elections this fall, rather than in March like many other townships.

The seats up for election are those currently served by Gail Schiefelbein, clerk; Mark Hendrickson, supervisor; and Ned Root, supervisor.

Filing for Kingston Township can be done through the clerk between the hours of noon and 5 p.m. at 35359 732 Avenue, Kimball. For questions, contact Schiefelbein at (320) 398-8400.

How and where to file

Filing for office is done through the respective clerk’s office and requires a $2 filing fee.

Those interested in filing for the City of Kingston can contact city clerk Bob Harms at (320) 398-2932.

For school board, filings can be done in the district office.
